Our taiji boxing program retains both healing and fighting parts of the taiji art. We train the traditional aspects of taiji such as breathing, relaxation, meditation, fluid movement, and balance. We teach both short qigong sequences and long forms, including partner sets and weapons. We also teach practical fighting skills based on basic pugilistic techniques and tactics common to most martial arts, native taiji techniques, and, for advanced level, using taiji explosive kinesiology for fast striking (fa-jing).
Our classes are suitable for people with various backgrounds and interests. Some of our students practiced martial arts before and chose taiji for continuing their martial arts development and improving their health. Others did not do any martial arts before and learn fighting foundations as they study taiji. Our style is physically and mentally challenging, though we teach modifications for those who need time to build strength and flexibility or have injuries. Partner and weapon forms provide an effective cardio workout once students learn them.
We teach our classes near Baltimore, Maryland. Our certifying organization (World Taiji Boxing Association) offers a variety of workshops in the USA and worldwide, some videos from workshops are available here. Such workshops help to improve taiji practice as well as provide a positive social experience and an invigorating active vacation.
Our domain name taiji21.com comes from our interest of not only teaching ancient art but also in understanding how the practice blends with 21st century fighting styles, way of life, and technology in all different aspects. You can view testimonies to see some of these connections.
